“Just last night a yet unannounced candidate was talking about eliminating the Department of Education and realigning the role of government with the Constitution.”

Who? This is my biggest pet peeve. WTH good is the Dept. of Education anyway? Don’t all the states have their own Education departments, anyway? What a colossal waste of money.

It is a monumental waste of money and entirely redundant to the State. Heck, each district even has their own redundant cirriculum coordinators at a hefty price for each subject. They can be streamlined, too.

Honestly, the only useful purpose it could serve is administering the National Teacher's Exam and data collections for trending. This could easily be handled by a not-for-profit organization that would be more efficient and self-sustaining with user funds instead of tax dollars (like the American Bar Association).

But since that makes sense, Washington won't do it.
