“something about kids ...all that racket...can make dogs act weird...they view kids as lower in the pack”

Actually it’s because their high-pitched squeals and giggles sound like injured prey animals and their tendency to run around a lot provokes a “prey chase” response.

As far back as I can remember, I was taught to -never- run away from a barking dog.

I’ve seen loads of them in my lifetime, stood my ground and never been bitten.

Simple as that but I guess it works.

Exactly.

Unfortunately, too few children these days are taught how to behave appropriately around dogs. Running away from a dog screaming (as I have seen some children do) is the worst possible response.

it’s hard to outrun most dogs anyhow

I mean Dobies are like Greyhounds with a T-Rex head attached ..on open ground they move out at a clip

even lumbering heavy Molassers can run for a while pretty quick
