When considering presidential run, Perry asked George W. Bush for advice

Despite reports of longstanding tension between the two men, Gov. Rick Perry says that he solicited advice from former President George W. Bush when the Texas governor was weighing a presidential run in July.

In an interview with Time Magazine's Mark Halperin, Perry said he called Bush on July 6 to wish the former president a happy birthday.

Perry, who was considering a presidential run, said he took that opportunity to ask Bush about his thoughts on whether the governor should get in the race. According to Perry, Bush replied, "'you'll do what's right.' He said 'you don't want to wake up when you're 70 and go, 'I wish I'd have tried that. I wish I had done that.'"

Perry said there is no animosity between him and the Bush clan, and that he has a "warm relationship" with both Bush 41 and Bush 43.

This looks like a hit piece trying to convince conservatives that Perry is Bush because he consulted with a former Pres on whether he should run himself. There will be conservatives who fall into the trap, and that is unfortunate.
