Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that it would be "short-sighted" to abandon high speed rail ambitions in California, even as Democratic lawmakers here show signs of concern over the multi-billion dollar project.
On Tuesday, some of the project's supporters expressed reservations after seeing an environmental report estimating that the first segment of the rail line could cost between $3 billion and $6 billion more than expected.

Yes, the plan was to t the Vegas branch off of that one, much father down the road. All the investors wanted was a few million acres of federal land.and un limited credit.
Surprised that they never bring up the land he owned near the bridge they built bypassing the dam.
Even if he doesn't, he wants CA taxpayers to spend billions we don't have so L.A. welfare recipients can transfer money faster to his constituents' NV casinos. Of course lots of union workers a.k.a. Democrats will be employed to build the RR as well.
What?
Perhaps Mister Reid is not aware; however, we here in Sacramento actually have scheduled air service directly to San Diego.
(Since Harry's example is in err, I guess we don't need to waste zillions on a train that nobody will take (voluntarily), n'est ce pas?
.
Someday we will see something cost less than the first estimates. Not today however.
Indians do not like this idea one bit, I suspect they will defend their new watering holes.
California needs to go broker. So we can be the brokiest ever. Some kind of a contest or something.
Shutting off the water to the Central Valley in order to “protect” a non-indegineous minnow has done wonders for this plan.
Thanks Boxer, Pelosi, Waxman, etc.
Thieving grifters lining their pockets.
On the other side of the argument, every penny spent on HSR is a penny that the state legislators can’t spend on free health care, free housing, and free Kindergarten-to-Doctorate education for illegal aliens from Mexico.
Maybe Reid is trying to persuade the Indians to send more campaign money his way, lol.

Yeah right! Like Nevada is in great financial condition right now. The truth of the matter is that when you look at percentages, Nevada is in much, much worse shape than California. So the oceanfront land you are looking for may be as far east as Utah. Try one home in 4 or 5 in Las Vegas in foreclosure. Try Clark County unemployment at around 14%. Try home sales down 60% this year to last. Yeah, California sucks, I know, I live here, but I have family in Las Vegas and believe me things are much worse there (and also in Reno as well).
My how times and values have changed.
40 years ago we had men like Barry Goldwater and Mo Udall pushing to build a canal to bring water from the Colorado River to Arizona and California.
Now we have Harry Reid wanting to spend more money than was spent on the CAP canal system to deliver drunken gamblers from LA to Vegas.
Oh, and we also have California refusing to deliver water to it’s Central Valley Farmers.
Hey, bet Reid knows all about that idea anyway!
the first segment of the rail line could cost between $3 billion and $6 billion more than expected.
Perhaps this will be a good thing. California legislators are addicted to spending. Let them spend the state to ruin. It can’t get much worse than it is now.
Abandon it NOW. DO IT! Get out. Get out NOW.
Got jokes?
Problem is, at these costs we will never be able to afford a ticket!
