Are these effectively “race riots”? I have read that the perps are largely blacks and asians. Gangs? What is the common denominator?

My personal opinion, is that these are simply thugs, hooligans and criminals of every stripe, sensing opportunity to loot, enrich, and amuse themselves.

The thing started in the “cultural/ethnic diversity” part of London and the major rioters in the beginning with Jamaican/others of “diverse ethnicity” aka not British isles ancestry. Photos of the first night at least show all black rioters. Apparently other thugs have joined in but since press are beaten trying to take photos, helicopter photos are standard lately, and they don’t show race easily.

I am sure the media in Britain does not want people in general to know the racial makeup of rioters. Unless it’s mostly white people.
