LCSW’s normally have at least one masters degree in psych or
counseling. Many have both. These people work as counselors in public schools, staff mental health units in hospitals. They are not forensic RN’s. They do patient workups and develop treatment plans in coordination with psychiatric medical staff. Lcsw’s are also often licensed counselors . They charge a lower hourly rate than psychiatrists and they cannot prescribe medications or sign patients into a mental health facility. This woman has worked for the state in both mental hospitals and in a post confinement program for persons deemed criminally insane or as they say here “not guilty do to mental disease or defect.”.
