One Man Killed Just Feet From The US/Mexico Border
EL PASO, Texas -- A shooting in Juarez hits a little too close to home for Bowie High School students.
At least one high-ranking Juarez police officer was shot and killed during a massive gunfight right across the U.S./Mexico border.
A Saturday morning football practice and a volleyball scrimmage were interrupted when gunshots were heard nearby.
Bowie High School principal Jesus Chavez was at home when he got a call about the shooting. He said even though he wasnt at the school, the school officials who were there did an excellent job getting all students inside and secure.
"Our volleyball coaches, our football coaches and our assistant principal reacted like if it was a regular school day," Chavez said.
A parent, who did not want to be identified, said at first no one really understood what was going on.
"We heard all kinds of gunshots at first we thought it was fireworks," the parent said. "There were a lot of them. More than 30 or 40." The parent said there were long pauses between the groups of shots.
Then they would continue and they (the school staff) pulled everyone inside. That was scary," the parent said.
According to Mexican officials, a high-ranking Juarez police officer, Victor Nazario Moreno Ramirez, was shot and killed. His truck was shot 420 times.
Another policeman was shot and injured during the fight.
The Bridge of the Americas was closed down Saturday for about an hour do to the shooting.
But, but our borders are as safe as they’ve always been!!!
They’ve had to close the Univeristy of Texas El Paso campus a couple times because of bullets from the Mexico side hitting the buildings. At the opposite end of the Texas border they’ve had to close the UT Brownsville campus for the same.
Such lovely people, the Mexicans. Wonderful culture. Celebrate diversity.
too bad they can’t just shoot back.
Back in the day at my high school, if someone shot at us the return fire would have been withering. Yes it was a downtown slum high school but I think we could have taken Libya in a stand up fight.
This can’t be true.
Guns are banned in Mexico.
And which "wonderful culture" is it that's consuming the drugs on this side of the border?
I guess it’s a good thing the sanctuary city bill never passed in Tx. lege. It might racial profile we want to be more welcoming.
An American school was closed down because of a shooting in Mexico. The Principal of the American school is named Jesus Chavez.
Anybody see a conflict there?
Just call them DREAM bullets.
Bowie High School....Jim Bowie would have known what to do.
Oh, yes, you’re right. Mexicans don’t EVER do drugs, uh huh. They’re ‘’family-oriented , hard-working types’’, sons ‘n’ daughters of the soil’’, yup. Please. If America stopped doing drugs tomorrow it wouldn’t change a thing. Mexico is in the shape it’s in because of the people who live there and I’m sick and tired of “Americas appetite for drugs’’ and “America’s gun culture’’ be foisted as the reason that Mexico is a mess. Mexico is a trenchant example of what happens when a nation and a people make a determined and conscious effort to eschew the rule of law in favor of a kleptocracy. F Mexico and it’s people, they’re parasites!
Yea and yes again. Though Samuel Colt made men equal, he didn’t make all guns equal. Bless him.
His truck was shot 420 times. What an odd number wonder what the odds of that are?.
Fear not congress will protect us. /S
What’s the world coming to when El Paso high school students have to dodge Mexican bullets and don’t even get drunk and...um...satisfied out of the deal?
Confucius say
students who duck bullets
graduate Summa Cum Lead.
LMAO!
Good for you!
A humble thank you. Perhaps it might prove a bit of a ‘’talking point’’ for you should you find yourself debating this issue with someone. Thanks again.
