I think the root cause is that the assailants knew that they were unarmed, physically, morally and intellectually. The corrective action is to purchase a firearm, learn how to use it, be prepared to use it and always carry it with you.

I agree with you on root cause. I think the immediate corrective action is to become armed ASAP; but I would write myself a couple of long-term CAPAs to improve my training program, arm all immediate family members who meet the basic requirements (and include them in the training program), and spread the word.
