On Jobs And Safety Net, Lawmakers Must Focus On Hard-Hit Minorities By Angela Glover Blackwell, Special to CNN August 5, 2011

Angela Glover Blackwell says blacks and Latinos hardest hit by unemployment She says debt deal leaves out unemployment insurance, job-creating investments Failure to do so will cost economy millions of jobs, gamble with U.S. future, she says Blackwell: Leaders must focus on robust, inclusive jobs agenda to ensure no one left behind

(CNN) -- Last month, the Center for American Progress highlighted the stark and disproportionate impact of the ongoing jobs crisis on people of color, with unemployment among blacks reaching more than 16%, compared with more than 11% for Latinos and more than 8% for whites. Simultaneously, poverty rates in communities of color remain at an all-time high, especially among children. More than one third of today's African-American and Latino youth under the age of 18 are growing up in poverty.

When combined with the projected loss of more than a quarter of $1 trillion in black and Latino wealth between 2009 and 2012 due to the foreclosure crisis, what we're left with is an entire generation of Americans living without the security of a decent living wage, quality education, affordable health care or home ownership.

This is a crisis level that calls for comprehensive strategies concentrated on creating jobs now and making smart, sustainable investments that will stimulate growth and secure our nation's economic future.

Focus on hard-hit minorities? What about the single mothers? Has CNN given up on single mothers?

Hopefully we will replace O’Bozo with a president who will focus on hard-hit Americans.

I just read another comment on FR tonight, in which the poster stated that 85% of blacks in America think 0dumb0 is doing a good job, to show how stupid & racist they really are. And why not? Unemployment doesn't bother blacks at all....they still get their welfare checks, food stamps, EIC credits for any meaningless work they might do periodically (mostly to support their drug habits), free housing, free medical care, free dental care, free everything, courtesy of tax payers who are pretty much entirely white Americans.

Poor whites?

But then again Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and Obama and Reid and the rest of the D’rats want to pass the Dream Act. Now that would help minorities, won’t it?

If we deported 12m illegals we would have a labor shortage and wages would rise. Let’s get cracking.

Really? I usually pick up my best bud from Worksource L.A. for lunch and across his office, blacks and latinos were lining up for free electricity and housing, using Iphones and wearing tricked-out outfits.

Well, Angela, return to the ways of such leaders as Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver (true American heroes) and away from the Commies derived from Dubose and your people will achieve success.

Keep your pants around your knees and roaming the streets at night and expect to keep whining.

You could get several million jobs for minority Americans by simply taking jobs held by illegals.

So her solution is to spend still more money on programs that haven’t worked? Creating still more debt?

Typical Liberal.

I’m lucky; I’m a white guy with a string of lazy older bosses who would rather be 1) retired on the job, or 2) chasing older white woman ass on the job - the “sure thing”, so they couldn’t be bothered to learn how to send my job to Mumbai or Manila.

They don’t have enough time to do this; we are only in our mid-40s (and the old-woman-ass in her mid sixties - still trying to dress as an 18-year-old - albeit a saggy, osteoporosis-laden one).

If your bosses are TOO lazy, they might let business slip to the point where nobody has a job because the company went under.

You’re right about that; that is why it is up to me to keep my skills current (or better). I just turned 40; I’ll be in “school” for the rest of my life.

Well, the US welfare system of today (at least if the practices of my blatantly liberal state comprise a valid example) rewards unmarrieds with kids with a king’s ransom, the more kids the merrier, but hardly offers peanuts to men and women if they marry or stay childless. I guess this could be viewed as a counter incentive to abortion, and more cynically an incentive to breed more dysfunctional voters; however abortion rates are still sky high among “Holder’s people.”

If there is a chart that tracks welfare practices from state to state, I’d sure be curious to see it. Most Freepers haven’t even got a nodding acquaintance with that system, which is both good and bad. Good they don’t need it, bad they don’t understand it.

It’s also an opportunity to let your boss’s boss know you could do your boss’s job better than he....

Like Kirk Douglas in that Frog movie where they execute their “cowards” - that’s not how I roll (I’m not bucking for promotion - I’ve received several). If I took a promotion now I’d make less (per hour - and I work 50+ already) than I make now; God bless the lazy wastes of space.

At least they laze and waste space at their desks to the tune of 60 hours a week... right?

No; none of us recieve OT pay. I don’t earn a penny more if I work another 15 hours (which is part of the problem).
