TIFFIN, Iowa (AP) -- GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is criticizing President Barack Obama's plan to take a three-day bus tour through the Midwest to discuss the economy.
The former House speaker told a Republican Party dinner in Iowa on Friday that Obama should act like a president and focus on governing rather than going on a campaign-style tour. He said Obama could call Congress into special session to pass better economic policies.
Gingrich called the tour "an insult to the intelligence of every American" that will not create a single job.

Did Newt tweet all of his followers?
clinton-neutered newt had all his twits in a row.
Newt suffers from occasional flashes of normalcy.
Regardless of what you may think of Obama, you really have to wonder what kind of IDIOTS he has working for him who planned this “victory tour”, which should be a painful and daily source of derisive laughter for its duration.
He is probably praying for some kind of a disaster or crisis that will cause a “regrettable cancellation”.
what jobs?
Newt’s speech was pretty good, in my opinion. It was the most substantive of the 4 who spoke - McCotter, Santorum, Gingrich and Pawlenty. Santorum and Pawlenty weren’t bad either.
So in what order do you think these candidates will finish behind Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann next weekend at the Ames Straw Poll? :)
Sometimes Newton gets so feisty that one expects smoke to come out of his ears. Then he starts cozying up to the Democrats again. Nothing ever changes or happens with Newton.
The word “derisive” is totally foreign to the Obama-bots.
I couldn’t predict the order, but I know many liberal Republicans must be for Myth Romney.
I wish I could trust him. I can't.
Newt’s only mad because Obama didn’t invite him to go along on the bus ride.
That’s our Newt.
If necessary, I’m sure there will be buses full of worshipers a day or so ahead of Obama to make sure that he receives a gloriously warm and rousing welcome at each stop.
I don’t like Newt, but every now and then, he comes up with
a good idea.
Romney withdrew from the the Ames Straw Poll.
So, seriously, since you are up there in Iowa, I would like to know what you think about the order of finish. There is a group of candidates that are really running - you went to hear some of the speak. Next weekend the media will be reporting it as the first vote in the primary season, and how significant the results are to the republican 2012 campaign. And as we are talking Gingrich, T-Paw, Santorum etc. on this thread, I do wonder if some of the also-rans might just drop out.
“He said Obama could call Congress into special session to pass better economic policies.”
Is Newt talking about the same Congress we just saw perform? My heavens man! don’t give him any ideas!
