I wonder if the men flying B17’s and B24’s ever imagined such a thing would someday be possible?

If you're talking about bombers flying around the world to hit any target, anywhere, any time, many of those men are the ones who made it possible.

If you're talking about the United States bombing a country that went from a terrorist state to an ally to an enemy for no clear reason and with no clear goals, them I have no idea.

LOL...I suspect not. They probably would have a very difficult time imagining a nearly vibrationless, quiet shirtsleeve environment.

For them, the concept of being suited up for 24 hours while in their heavy woolen flight gear, flack armor inserted, helmet and goggles on, having to have a little bottle of O2 to go from point A to point B all the while feeling like you are sitting on a vibrator would be hard for them to envision.

By all accounts, the 8-12 hour missions left them completely exhausted and drained.
