From what I understand, the U.S. pays 70% of the cost of NATO. Where are we getting the money and why?

To make things worse, Europe is in more financial trouble than U.S.. There has been some implicit threat to all hostile powers who would take on U.S. allies, that is, if they move on them, U.S. would turn up and join the fight later. That assumption is now in doubt due to U.S. economic trouble. Which leads to hostile countries' calculation that they can act without fear of U.S. military power. More military conflicts will ensue as a result.

This has been expected. We just didn't know when and how. That part is now unfolding. Enemies definitely want to exploit this window of opportunity. Later on, these enemies will be also in economic disasters of their own. Then things will metastasize.
