ITTSBURGH -- A teenage boy is on a ventilator after his parents said he smoked what he thought was marijuana. Ray and Tonya Rice's 13-year-old son Brandon was a healthy soon-to-be eighth-grader at South Moreland Middle School. The Rices said in mid-June he was having trouble breathing and said he thought he was having a heart attack. "He was telling me that he couldn't feel his hands and his legs," said Ray Rice. "He said he couldn't breathe. He was vomiting and had a high fever." His parents said following his sudden illness he ended up in intensive care at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with two collapsed lungs. "They [the doctors] showed us pictures of his lung inside. You can see the big burn on his lung," said Tonya Rice.

Drugs don’t hurt anyone, legalize marijuana, etc... /SAR
Um... on topic though: Yes. this is sad.
This is very sad! Prayers for this boy and his family. The article made it sound like this synthetic drug is really spreading through Pennsylvania. Good info to know for all parents!
Sounds fishy to me.
I’ll bet he drank some milk, too. Is anyone looking into that?
The substance this boy smoked is called Spice.
It is potpourri, sold over the counter legally in smoke shops, and can kill.
Let everyone know about this substance, and ask them to get the word out: the Spice kills. Stay away from it.
If it’s nearly killing people like this, the dealers probably won’t last very long.
what part of synthetic - as in NOT marijuana, didnt you unnerstand?
I would have no complaints with bringing the matter back under the purview of doctors, who in turn would have to bear a certain level of insurance or bonding against malpractice if they went outside the list of FDA blessed drugs. Clandestine street drugs carry high risks of contamination or poor quality; pharmacy drugs carry very little such risk.
Plastic plants. They look so real and they last forever.
And not just synthetic, but I would bet a dozen doughnuts that it was badly contaminated.
I work with a lot of teen addicts and a lot of them have started using this because it doesn’t show on their drug tests. It is sad really.
From the article:
The Rices said their son smoked the substance out of a Pez dispenser.
“You can smell the chemical in it but it’s a potpourri that these kids are smoking. It’s crazy. I’m sure the Spice had a lot to do with it, but he also inhaled a lot of plastic,” Ray Rice said.

Pez Dispenser, that’s a new one to me.
Dusting them is almost as much trouble as watering them.
Dealers? This crap is sold over the counter.
The part with words. lol
Kids today. Oy.
That and using a Pez dispenser as a pipe. Even if just burned an empty Pez dispenser and inhaled he would probably be in a world of hurt.
Why don't schools take time off from condoms on cucumbers to teach the kids proper bong usage? < /sarc>
C’mon now! How could smoke from plastic hurt him? Plastic isn’t a drug. /s
Either that or dried jimson weed.
