Eric Cantor: Obama 'in over his head'
By: Jennifer Epstein August 3, 2011 01:10 PM EDT
President Barack Obama is in over his head when it comes to tackling the countrys economic troubles, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said Wednesday.
The president has not run a business or created jobs and has proven himself ill-suited to put the economy back on track, the Virginia Republican said in a midday interview on the Wall Street Journals website with opinion columnist Peggy Noonan and editor James Freeman.
At one point during negotiations on a deal to raise the debt ceiling, Cantor said that the president chose to play politics rather than working on the substance of the deal. Obama seemed agitated by Republicans opposition to any measures that might be perceived as tax increases something that the president wanted in a deal and, at one point, said, Eric, dont call my bluff, Cantor recalled.
Though Republicans were reluctant to support a bill to raise the debt ceiling that didnt also include plans to vote on a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, the prevailing sentiment among members of the GOP was that we didnt want to go past Aug. 2 because of the unknown without raising the debt ceiling.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will be responsible for choosing the three House Republicans to join the committee that will propose ways to reduce the deficit, and Cantor said he is getting a lot of calls and emails from members who want to serve on the panel, including some who voted against the deal.

So are statist Republicans that just signed on to increasing our debt because they are too gutless to stand for the principles they campaigned on.
No kidding?
So, let me get this straight: We extended past the 2012 elections a reconsideration of the issue... and for that we got the promise of (”Washington style”)spending cuts and promise of no new taxes (both of which are at the whim of yet another “commission”).
And now I’m told “we won”???
in this case. jan 20 2009
Obama is not incompetent. He intends to take America down the path of socialism/communism etc. The ONLY way that can be achieved is to first destroy the US. Debt beyond our means is one of the engines to do it.
Uh, Eric? Right now I’m so mad at you that I just want you to shut your ass kissin’ pie hole and sweep around your own back door until you can think for yourself and what’s good for us out here in the real world. I’ll let you know when I’m ready to hear anything you have to say.
Yeah, with more than enough help from the De-publicans!!
You can bet that the Republican leadership in both the House and Senate will be putting all those who had the courage to say No to this crap sandwich on the $**tlist for these Commission?Committee slots.
The democrats will appoint 6 ultra-left socialtists, the RINO-led Republicans will appoint one token Tea Party guy and the rest will be RINOs like McCain.
obama may be in over his head, but, he handed your ass to you in this socalled “debt crisis”. So who is the dummy? the American people.
Oh yeah? Obama has an answer for this. A bus trip!
Take that!
Sorry, but the GOP leadership, including Cantor, have zero credibility.
And the Republicans are either stupid or complicit. Either scenario means they need replacements.
(ladylike applause from correctly white-gloved hands)
So are you Eric!
Pot meet kettle, kettle meet pot!
The only real thing in that bill was a hike in the debt limit. Everything else is a promise of future goodies.
Obama will spend the money in ways to insure his re-election, and Boehner and company will be spending the campaign season arguing about what austerity measures have to happen to pay for that spending. Can you say "Speaker of the House Pelosi" once again?
It's the campaign off-season where you need to do the hard stuff. This was the time to let the SHTF, as by Nov 2012, the smoke would have cleared. Let's call 2011 the year of Boehner's Boner of a Bill.
It seems to me that Cantor and the Republicans are the ones in over their heads, judging from the comment we didnt want to go past Aug. 2 because of the unknown"
They let themselves be scared by the 'unknown' boogeyman should the debt ceiling be hit. They might as well just acknowledge that they will never ever let it be hit, as they are too scared to be adults and address the problem of living within our means.
The other explanation is that they know what would happen, but they fear that it would result in net positive gains for the Democrats. Which again says that they are out of their depth when fighting the Democrats.
If Cantor doesn't think he can win, he should step down and let somebody else play for his side who does. Cantor might be a very smart guy, but if you avoid every battle you think you might lose, the enemy quickly learns how to frighten you away from every battle.
Black, whodat?
Thanks for your posts #36 and #37,
Your analysis is spot-on.
It amazes me when anybody gives any sort of credit to Boner & Co.. Not only did they give the store away, but they missed an opportunity that won’t be quick in returning (if it ever will).
