Having only the nominal control of 1/2 of 1/3 of the government, what did you hope or expect to “get” (using a debt ceiling as an “opportunity” to extract some budget concessions) and how would you suggest House leadership go about doing that?
The House runs by simple majority vote, whoever has the majority has TOTAL control.
And that 1/3 was given the responsiblity of handling the fiances by the Founding Fathers since it was closest to the People with two year elections.
