This isn't news. The House rule is not 72 hrs anyway. It's "3 calendar days" excluding weekends and holidays when the House isn't in session.

A bill posted at 11:59pm on Monday can be voted on 12:01am on Wednesday.

The rule could always be suspended and did not apply to emergency bills. This was discussed over the weekend in another thread.

The House passed "Cut, Cap & Balance."

The House passed the Boehner bill.

The House rejected the Reid bill.

The immoveable deadline is tomorrow.

There was no time left to comply with the "pledge," let along the rule.

Thanks to their obstructionism, Democrats ran the clock out making it IMPOSSIBLE for the GOP not to break this "pledge."

BLAME OBAMA. BLAME REID.

Stop shooting your own side!

“Stop shooting your own side!”

How about you stop making excuses for inside the beltway RINOs? Boner and company are not on my side, they are part of the problem.

BLAME OBAMA. BLAME REID. Stop shooting your own side!

With all respect, BS!

With "leaders" like Boehner and McConnell, we don't need enemies. Today, Boehner and McConnell gave the Democrats something for nothing -- more borrowed cash to spend now in exchange for the slim chance that a future Congress might think about having a discussion about considering whether it might study the remote possibility of holding phony debates over slight reductions in the future rate of automatic spending increases in further outlying years. And best of all for the Obama and the Democrats, this new credit card won't expire until AFTER the 2012 elections!

This was a total betrayal and capitulation by the the Vichy Republican leadership. By their actions, Boehner and McConnell have proven that they are not on my side. They are on the side of the permanent Government which feathers their lifetime, inflation-adjusted nests.

Stop shooting your own side!

Our side moved to the left and that becomes enemy territory. There's no good reason why the Republicans couldn't have held the line "til the clock ran out". The demorats and Obama play the fear cards very well...they know they can out that fear in the people and the Republicans....and they do.

The problem is the Republicans put their tails between their legs and surrender just when the victory is close at hand....even when they fully know they have the support of the American people...they yield every time.

People have a right to be very angry with them...and yes take that anger out on our side...they ask for it by their behavior and deceit.

The immoveable deadline is tomorrow.

Why and how is it immoveable.

Do you really think a couple of days delay would create panic and chaos? Shoot they'd just furlough a few hundred thousand government workers, just like they do when a budget bill is not passed and in the absence of a continuing resolution.

Aug.2 is a made up date, there is still time to abide by the rule.

Boehner doesn't want that type of scrutiny.

“The immoveable deadline is tomorrow.”

So sorry you bought into that falsehood. The Aug. 2 (alleged) deadline isn’t mandatory, it is an arbitrary date thrown out there, and it is flexible. (At least that’s what every expert talking head said over the weekend.)

They could have voted 'no'.
