So the voters blamed the GOP for the 1995 government shutdown. That doesn't mean that they would blame the GOP this time around, if House Republicans had not knuckled under and seemingly settled for next to nothing on spending cuts in exchange for raising the national debt again. No, they just wimped out because they feared the MSM.

The House Republican leadership has failed the majority of the voters who put them into power. It needs a serious shakeup. Any congressional Republican who votes for this inadequate bill that does not address the debt problem should be challenged by a legitimate "deficit hawk" in GOP primaries next year.

I don’t think it turned out that badly. The deal is far from perfect, but we got more of what we wanted than anyone had expected (the TEA Party gets a lot of credit for that, even though they mostly oppose the final product).
