Everyone knows there will be big tax hikes on Dec 31, 2012 when ALL the Bush tax cuts expire.
Obama didn't throw it in this “deal” because he knows he wouldn't get a “deal” and besides he figured he could just wait a year and a half and get it automatically.

I think what’s happened is that the budget deal takes into account the end of the Bush Tax Cuts in 2013. They probably couldn’t get the extra $2.4 trillion without that.

Certainly not if they leave out reform of Medicare. And Obama couldn’t offer any more on that because he already gutted it by $500B.

On Fox: bill assumes Bush tax rates expire in 2013 as a baseline. Bill is worded so that it could repeal ALL tax rates — AMT, others — and make them much higher — a huge tax hike. Bottom line: will taxes jump because they assume ALL tax breaks will expire in 2013. Much confusion. Added to huge defense cuts and there may not be the votes in the House to pass.

Boehner's office has released an outline addressing many issues:

http://www.speaker.gov/UploadedFiles/3-7-31-11-Debt-Framework-Boehner.pdf

On taxes and the committee, it says this:

Under the framework, the Joint Committee of Congress will work off a current-law baseline, as required by the 1974 Budget Act, effectively making it impossible for Joint Committee to increase taxes.

Of course it does:
- expiring Bush Era Tax Cuts
- massive deathcare taxes
- more taxes from "super congress"

Did anyone expect anything different?

Forgive me oh great greek god who issues pronouncements from on high, but no taxes occur unless passed by House, Senate and signed by Prez.

So, like Republicans are going to pass a big tax hike right before the 2012 elections, uh huh.

All of this is tortured thought. Bret B can show no such thing...that the deal includes big tax hikes. He will twist himself into a pretzel broken into a zillion pieces trying to show it, if what you posted is true, but he cannot do it.

I oppose the “deal”; it’s silly on its face that we went through all this angst for virtually nothing that addresses the issues we face.

It stands or falls on the truth of it, though, not the imagined stuff.

WH Says Deal Includes Tax Hikes

###
White House senior adviser David Plouffe said on Monday that he believes the newly minted deal to raise the U.S. debt ceiling will pass both houses of Congress and be signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Plouffe also appeared to clash with House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, who said on Sunday that the deal included no tax hikes.

“That’s just not true,” he told NBC’s Today show. “If we’re going to do additional deficit-reduction in the fall, it should be tax reform, closing loopholes for the wealthy and big corporations.” Read more at Reuters.com.- http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/01/us-usa-debt-plouffe-idUSTRE77025620110801

There will be tax increases. The Deficit Commission will have at least one weak kneed Republican and the commission will only be as strong as its weakest link. The Bush tax cuts will also absolutely expire and not be renewed.

The alternative for the GOP would be seeing massive defense cuts and being blamed for senior citizens seeing their Medicare cut. “But,” House Republican leaders exclaim, “the cuts would not be to beneficiaries.”

True, the cuts would be punishing doctors who will respond by denying access to Medicare patients.

The Democrats are happy to force through taxes in the committee and then, when the GOP opposes them, claim the GOP would rather hurt our soldiers and seniors than raise taxes on “fat cat millionaires.” Read more at RedState.com.-

Quelle surprise!
Obamacare coming up and expiration of Bush tax cuts. This deal does nothing about them.

But we get spending cuts that are actually spending increases! Yay!

Lucy (Dems) is holding the ball for Charlie Brown (GOP) again... and it looks like he hasn't learned a thing.

Dems are just doing what they always do... Tax Republicans and spend on Dem constituents. The reason there is no budget in FY 11 is because it allows them to keep spending at FY 10 levels (think stimulus) and now we find that stimulus spending is going into the baseline for FY 12. We need someone who can out smart these criminals...

Any increase in national debt is by nature a tax increase. All debt must eventually be paid by tax revenues. The amount tax revenues must increase, in present value terms, is equal to the increase in the debt. Debt = taxes. Law of Economics.

Almost by definition, $Trillions more in debt *IS* a tax increase. You need to include who is being taxed when defining more debt as a tax. In this case, the tax is on our kids, their kids, and their kid’s kids.

And I’m not kidding.
