Never thought of it that way Nana, but you know, you’re right.

Do you know off the top of your head where this tradition of keeping dictations started? Was it with Jo Smith?

Well, not throughout history, but within Mormonism and it’s theology yes. Smith started keeping dictations of his revelations fairly yearly on, although some (like D&C 132) were not released immediately.

At the time of his death only 59 (IIRC) of his 140 or so revelations had been made public.
