According to official letters obtained by The Daily Caller, the gay conservative group GOProud and the ultraconservative John Birch Society wont be co-sponsoring the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2012.
The decision was reached by a full vote of the American Conservative Unions board of directors. The ACU organizes and hosts CPAC each year.
Representatives of GOProud and the John Birch Society were notified of the decision via mail Friday afternoon.
The decision comes after GOProuds 2011 sponsorship sparked severe criticism from ACU board members, and prompted several social conservative groups to boycott the event. The controversy reached a boiling point when GOProuds chairman called respected ACU board member Cleta Mitchell a nasty bigot.
Long considered a fringe group, the John Birch Societys sensationalist accusations (such as saying Dwight Eisenhower was a dedicated, conscious agent of the Communist conspiracy) once prompted William F. Buckley to effectively banish the group from the conservative movement.
Various blocs of CPAC board members find both GOProud and the Birchers highly offensive and for entirely different reasons.
Meanwhile, one controversial conservative activist actually survived the ACU board vote.
Despite accusing Americans for Tax Reforms Grover Norquist and ACU board member Suhail Khan, during his 2011 CPAC speech, of being in league with the Muslim Brotherhood, it was decided that conservative activist David Horowitz would not be precluded from participating in the future.
ACUs decision to revisit past decisions regarding CPAC has been expected. After the departure of longtime ACU Chairman David Keene last year, it was predictable that ACUs board of directors would address lingering questions surrounding past co-sponsors and speakers.

I still don’t think anyone should ever trust the ACU again
Both are still suspect, but CPAC needs to do more. Let's see some board purges.
EXCELLENT News! Thank you so much for posting.
I had not even hoped for this development - I thought CPAC had imploded.
Horowitz sure is chummy with queers.
Isn’t that curious.

That’s funny. From where we stand today, the Birchers seem to have been far more accurate in their assesment of reality. Buckley seems more like a NE elitist than a conservative.
Agreed. Became a laughing stock these past few years.
All the more reason CPAC should be boycotted again this year.
How many members does GOProud have? I bet very few. The organization is just another Gay activist angle.
CPAC has had its little tryst with the queers, I wonder if either got any satisfaction out of it.
Glad Keene’s gone. Never thought of him as a conservative so much as a Keenean. Problem with DC, well, ONE of the problems, is guys like this come along and the cause becomes all about them, their power, their influence. Just send your dues and we’ll take care of business. It’s almost inevitable. In the age of the internet, hopefully, their power and influence are short-lived, so the power stays with the people who foot the bill.
"Very few", is as good assessment as any. Queers are 2% to 3% of the population, very few are conservative and politically active. CPAC had everything to lose and practically nothing to gain by letting them in.
I still will not ever trust them or give them money. They can get stuffed.
That’s kind’a how I see it, also.
“...Birchers seem to have been far more accurate in their assesment of reality.”
True.
Why are people connected with the Muslim Brotherhood (or Muslim anything) deciding who's a good enough conservative and who isn't? And what has the John Birch Society done lately that's bad, I wonder?
“I still will not ever trust them or give them money. They can get stuffed.”
I don’t know, I kind of think good behavior should be rewarded.
I mean if there is no positive response to these changes, that would be a shame.
...gay conservative group GOProud and the ultraconservative John Birch Society won't be co-sponsoring the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2012.And Birch Logs, well, those are right out.
I don’t buy the 2% to 3% either. It is in their advantage to inflate their numbers.
