17.6% of GDP today. In 1993, 18 years ago, it was "over 14%." So, healthcare as a percentage of GDP has gone up 3% in 18 years. Considering how much older the population is (the median age of Americans is now over forty, the oldest in history), and considering advances in medicine that extend life and improve its quality, that doesn't sound like "runaway spending" to me.

If it isn’t struck down by the Federal Courts, than we’ll have to wait until 2013, if we win the White House and both houses of Congress.
