McConnell Sees Deal Very Close; Focus Is on Triggers for Cuts By MCHAEL D. SHEAR AND MATTHEW L. WALD
WASHINGTON Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, said Sunday morning that he was very close to recommending to his members that they sign on to a debt deal with President Obama and the Democrats.
Speaking on the CNN program State of the Union, Mr. McConnell said the emerging deal included as much as $3 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years, with much of that decided later this year by a joint congressional committee.
What conservatives want to do is cut spending, he said. Weve come a long way. This agreement is likely to encompass up to $3 trillion is spending cuts.
In addition, Mr. McConnell said the agreement would allow votes in Congress on a balanced budget amendment.
Mr. McConnell indicated that proposals to force action by the joint committee had been among the most contentious of the last week. He declined to be specific about so-called triggers of across-the-board cuts that would go into effect if the committee could not agree on a plan a measure meant to put pressure on the committee to finish its work.
But he said the committee made up of six Democrats and six Republicans would be under tremendous pressure by the American people and the markets to implement the further spending cuts.
Thats been an item of outstanding discussion for over a week, Mr. McConnell said. Well let you know what weve done on the trigger issues when we make the announcement.

It’s all still very unconstitutional ~ as Richard Nixon and Ronaldus Magnus both found out.
Yes, but does it REQUIRE these votes?
“deal included as much as $3 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years”
I think we all know what is going to happen with the proposed cuts. Same as was promised to Ronald Reagan by the dimoKKKRATS. All BS.
This from FoxNews:
“One source familiar with the talks noted that while the Medicare cuts would be capped, defense cuts would not and would make up roughly half of the total cuts. This mechanism could help compel Republicans avoid the “trigger” entirely by working through the commission to achieve deficit reduction.
But the framework of the deal floated perilously between the alternatives pushed by House conservatives and Senate Democrats. “
“The tentative plan would have Congress vote on a balanced-budget amendment — a key demand of Tea Party-aligned Republicans — but would not require Congress to approve it in order for the debt ceiling to be raised.
Top aides to House GOP lawmakers told Fox News they were concerned about the emerging deal. One source said it could be difficult to bring House conservatives back on board with such a plan. “
In Round #2, half-the cuts would come from defense so as to lure Republicans to vote yes.

The word "likely" is so typical of the Criminal Class in DC.
Translation: Likely = Never Happen
No.
Why does McConnell need a trigger for cuts? Why Does the Gobbler need a Blue-Ribbon Commission? Americans pay these hacks to vote.
Not “table” votes, install triggers or farm out the tough choices to a commission.
Most of these hacks need to be put out to pasture. The sooner the better.
And just how much money that we don’t have is this new commission going to cost? I’ve got a better idea, mr clown congresscritter, why don’t you pay for it out of your overblown salaries, and leave me out of it, after all you are responsible for the mess that we are in. And one other idea, public executions for failure!
The Democrats are brazenly and unashamedly admitting that only Republican care about national defense and a strong military.
That is astonishing.
Super-Committee, I can see it now: Durbin, Harkin, Boxer, Wasserman-Schultz, Schikowsky, and Clyburn on the (D) side - - - McCain, Brown, Collins, and 3 saps from the (R) house. Go-along-to-get-along compromising (R)s fold like a house of cards.
Abandon all hope, ye who come here.
Neither are appropriations bills, nor are they revenue measures in the strictest sense.
Not good enough.
Unless the “cuts” are in the current Fiscal year they don’t count. Congress votes financial matters anew every chance they get.
Like most Americans I am FED UP with these Republicants! I will work harder this upcoming election than I ever have to clear DC out! And I mean of Republicants who voted to not immediately cut debt!
IMHO, the economy of this country crashing maybe the only way we can start over and rebuild without these useless POS!!!
