Egyptian Daily: Egypt Prevents Wife of Iranian Shah From Visiting Cairo

The Egyptian daily Al-Yawm Al-Sab'a reported that for the first time in 30 years, Egyptian authorities prevented Farah Diba, the wife of the late ousted Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, from visiting his grave in Cairo on the anniversary of his death.

The daily estimated that the reason for preventing her from attending is her association with the Mubarak regime.

The Iranian website Asr-e Iran claimed that this move is a positive message from Cairo to Tehran.

The article title is fractured. Why not direct.

“Egyptian authorities prevented the wife of Shah of Iran from visiting his grave on the 30th anniversary of his death.”

Free Republic policy is to use the headline of the original. This prevents repeated duplication of the same article. If you use your own “homebrew” title the Mods will change it back to the original.

There is a 100 letter or less requirement for titles so they must be truncated.

I am sorry.

I did not mean to reflect poorly on “your” title, I was aware of the rules and the rules make sense to prevent duplicate posts.

I was reflecting poorly on the writer of the article. It could have been a language structure issue before translation that caused it, but it seemed to avoid the relevance of the 30th anniversary.

Sorry, I was not clear in my statement.

I meant that the sentence structure of the article title was awkward and missed the whole point by not mentioning the 30th anniversary of his death.

After the fact I realized it might be a product of translation. I have been conditioned by the AP nonsense to be irritated with titles that are ridiculous that I found it irritating.

The 30th anniversary of Anwar Sadat’s death is coming up soon (Oct. 6), which is when Mubarak took over. In other words, at the start of Mubarak’s reign, the shah was not only no longer in power, but was already dead.
