"It was just a long and involved process," said Ted Stroscher, the owner of the former Sizzler site on Del Obispo Street that the Irvine company was eyeing for its first San Juan locale. "Mainly they decided it was easier to work in Texas and they're going to spend all their effort at this time trying to do that."

I wish one would open near me in Houston. When I lived in L.A. I ate those burgers all the time. Fifteen years later I had a heart attack but I’m not sure they’re related.
We've had a couple of them here for years and the lines are pemanantly long.
What is special about them?
I like how everybody mentioned but the nominally involved city employees seems to know unequivocally that the long dragged out deal is dead dead dead.
Good burgers. Lots of options, many not shown on menu, you just need to know they exist.
They do three things: burgers, shakes, fries, and they do them well. Not trying to be all things to all people, like McDonald’s.
Well, it’s a fast food burger but their attention to detail and quality, in my opinion, is unmatched. For example, “cattle to customer in 5 days.” Their meat goes from the cattle to the burger in no more than 5 days. Never frozen. Their produce, same kind of thing. Their buns are a certain kind of dough (I forget) but it’s highest quality. The burger is stacked perfectly. The sauce is the best I have had. And the patty isn’t a quarter or third pounder. It’s a smaller simple patty, I think an eighth pound but the taste is delicious.
Their fries are the best I have had, fresh, and their malts, for the money....unmatched. Real Ice cream only.
They have not changed their menu in over 60 years! Hamburger, Cheeseburger, malts, fries and drinks. That’s it. Been that way since 1948. No jalapeno, no breakfast, no pizza burger, no hot dogs, the same 2 burgers since 1948. There is a secret menu but I have never used it.
It does have a cult following but it’s catching on. And here in Texas, when they opened, it was lines literally a mile long for days. Now....they are still long. Drive thrus are long waits. I do kind of feel sorry for the other burger joints.
There are “haters” of IN N OUT burger, even here in Texas. They like their stuff and I understand that. But Whattaburger does not have the quality standards IN N OUT does and that alone cannot be ignored. There is a great book about IN N OUT Burger that explains all this. They did NO advertising when they opened in Texas. NONE. No TV, NO radio, No Newspaper. Just as simple sign “Now open” and the crowds came by the thousands and thousands. The word is out and it’s a Hit.
The book about their story is very good, very interesting. New York Times Bestseller when it came out. Harry Snyder , the founder, would not compromise on quality when McDonalds was figuring out mass production. Harry would have none of it and to this day.....it hasn’t changed. And the people who work there....they are like family and treated like family. That was Harry’s way of doing business.
In-n-Out burger threads just end up making me hungry.
You won’t find any illegals working at In-N-Out, that’s for sure.
I might just have to make the trek up to Frisco tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about your heart attack. I grew up 3 blocks from IN N OUT burger in Hacienda Heights, CA. It opened, circa 1968 and my older brother was, I think, responsible for half their business during the first few years they were open. Hope you are doing better now.......
We were there on Wednesday and the burger was as tasty as ever. Tell us how you liked it if you go!
Asa Newport Beach Boy, I am kinda shocked, but not really............
Response: "They're saying: 'We can go places that don't have roadblocks,'" Sherwood said."
Tell me again why California is swirling in the toilet.
We’ve been there three times already. It’s actually not too bad of a wait if you walk in, as opposed to driving through.
No illegals, No tattoos, No long hair, ...frankly, their employees look like a bunch of Mormon missionary types with no bikes. And they NEVER get the order wrong and they always smile and say thank you. They seem to only hire clean cut polite and smart nerds.....
I’m doing okay. Thanks for the good wishes. I’m getting old but that’s another subject.
I don’t like hamburgers anymore for some reason. But my mouth waters thinking about an In-n-Out.
My son came back from Las Vegas a week ago and presented me with two Animal Style Double Doubles when I picked him up at the airport. He put them in ziplocks with coldpaks and they were delicious after a four hour flight.
“Quality You can Taste”. That, and an exceptionally friendly, and fluent in English staff, where “ a smile is part of the uniform”. Also, they are family owned. No corporate franchises.
