Yes, the "[sic]" is not required. But it is also the way we speak and write today:
in·ci·dent/ˈinsidənt/ Noun: An event or occurrence: "several amusing incidents". Adjective: Liable to happen because of; resulting from: "the changes incident to economic development".
Usually the “[sic]” goes after the thing you’re pointing out.
