I would vote in favor of “shared sacrifice” if it means having the 49-51% who pay nothing start paying part of the burden. Otherwise, NO.
Me too. Let’s talk about eliminating all the exemptions, deductions and credits that allow that bottom 50% to contribute less than 10% of their Adjusted Gross Income in Federal Income Taxes. I don’t care how many kids you’ve got, how big a mortgage you took on, or how many solar panels, electric cars, or windmills you bought — pay 10% of your GROSS income.
And I specifically include the fact that a hundred million workers have $10,000+ in employer-paid benefits that are part of their total compensation but are not counted as income for tax purposes. If you receive health insurance, education reimbursement, 401k matching, company vehicle or cell phone, reimbursed meals, or stock options, it should be treated and taxed just like you received cash.
Remember, if EVERYBODY paid 10%, NOBODY would need to be punished with higher rates.
