I wish a really knowledgeable parliamentarian would tell me and the GOP what the options are in the Senate if the House bill passes today. I want somebody on our side to come up with some of those “deem-it-passed” maneuvers. We can wait to vote out the Senate Dems at the ballot box, but it would be so much more fun to bamboozle them for a change.

You can only bamboozle when you have a majority in the Senate. There are tricks to avoid the filibuster. But there are not tricks whereby the minority can out vote the majority. If you have a popular President on the side of the minority sometimes you can peel off part of the opposition.

I can’t explain everything but I can explain the parliamentary trick being played here:

Boehner gets a weak bill through the House that the RINOs in the Senate will support.
Reid kills, “tables”, it.

He sends his own bill up but Senate rules require 40 Senators to agree to anything- the language in the bill, the procedures for handling the bill.
That’s called ‘cloture’.

The Senate RINOs, because the House gave them a weak bill they can support, block the cloture votes Reid needs unless the bill includes the two-part debt ceiling mechanism and cuts bigger than the debt increase.

That’s it in a nutshell. Not a ‘bamboozle’ just everyday politicking.
