Remodeled German system possibly linked to crash
A major Chinese newspaper has reported that an automatic control system blamed for Saturday's fatal train crash was a Chinese remodeled version based on German technology.
The government's investigation team on Thursday released initial results of its probe into the crash between 2 high-speed trains that occurred in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The team said lights at a station near the crash site failed to change from green to red after lightning knocked out power to one of the trains. It blamed the problem on a design flaw in the signaling equipment.
It also said station employees were unaware of the signal failure.
Friday's edition of China Business News carried comments by Beijing Transport University's Wang Mengshu, a member of the investigation team.
Professor Wang was quoted as saying that the automatic train control system, which includes the signaling equipment, was introduced from Germany and adapted by China.
The professor reportedly said the repeated remodeling may have been substandard, and suggested the system should have undergone further checks.
The remodeled system is likely to be the focus of attention in the investigation. Officials will also be examining the carriages and the black boxes on the two trains.

P!
Translation: The Chinese stole most of the German technology, reverse engineered what they couldn’t steal, and totally f***ed it up.
Alternate theory: The Germans let the ChiComs steal bogus plans with fatal flaws, out of corporate espionage revenge.
What the reality probably is:
Germany sold the technology to China, and China didn’t maintain the equipment properly...
Maybe the system updates were all in German. Sounds a bit sardonic but I have seen similar problems occur. Tech doesn't know the language and just ignores needed/required system software updates.
“Adapted”. That means a piece of broom handle jammed on the gas pedal was the cruise control.
When the Chinese clone our electronic equipment, they take components out until it stops working, then put that last component back in, call it their new, better design and sell it. The attitude is that we waste money over-engineering stuff. They know better than we do about things that we design, test, and build.
Enjoy driving your Chery or that flight on a Chinese airliner.
German equipment is NOT subtandard and doesn’t “fail”. I suspect some canny engineer anticipated Chinese intellectual theft...and planned accordingly..and was proven right.
I bet now the chicoms wish they hadnt claimed the technology as Chinese so they could ask the Germans to compensate and hold them liable :-)
chicoms are cheap copy-cat B’tards.

Translation:
We bribed some politicians so we could get our hands on these German designs and they are clearly flawed! We will not give money to that politician in this election cycle!

“Took German design and messed it up”?
Is that like pirated?
At the company I worked for we sold our equipment to China, gave them drawing etc to maintain it. No need to reverse engineer anything we gave them the plans. They started a company to compete with us and we know they used our technology. What they didn’t know was the cost of updating the drawings in the system were so expensive that we changed our drawings with the engineers as we found problems, those changes were in our engineering change notices but rarely updated in online drawings. If you didn’t know where to look, you never knew that something was mechanically wrong with the design and then changed.

Despite this tragedy, China will continue to expand her high speed rail system. And make safety improvements.
But here's an interesting article about the worse high speed train accident in history. I'll leave you guys with this:
