I think a couple of holdouts should have a “change of heart” and tell BoneHead that they will vote yes. Then vote no when they cast their vote.

I agree. The Boehner bill is a piece of crap and does nothing to fix Washington—or the country.

Those pesky Tea Party House members are holding Boehner’s feet to the fire. The idiot demrats should have voted yes on the bill the House sent them. But they had more games to play. Now they are in deep poop. Call me Pollyanna, but
Boehner—by continuing to negotiate with demrats—has provided the time the Tea Partiers needed to thwart the RINO bill.

It will be interesting to see how Boehner ultimately handles the mess he’s made for himself. I bet 70-30 he has a medical issue. He really is not looking well. I suspect something very nasty is coming from the demrats if he fails to uphold his end of their subrosa deal.

From FoxNews.com

The debt ceiling shouldn't be raised at all 35.9% (7,950 votes)

Largest percentage of all the options.

The political reality is the Republicans are not going to get any spending cuts of substance controlling just one House and with a Dem as President. The reality is the best they can do at this point is to stop any new spending Obama and the Dems want to enact and minor cuts. The next best opportunity is 2012 assuming the Republicans can take the Presidency and get control of the Senate. And yes, politics is important insofar as if a failure to raise the debt ceiling is perceived as instigated by the Republicans it will be detrimental to their chances in 2012 to take the Presidency and the Senate. This country cannot afford another 4 years of Obama.

Great screed at Ace of Spades HQ

"The current Boehner deal is less than meaningless. It's an insult to you. Boehner is grabbing your daughter, spitting in her mouth, and then burning your house down. All the while talking about how he's all about doing the right thing."

- break -

"Mr. Speaker, the only rational position for a reasonable man acting prudently to take is to honor those who made his rule possible and not raise the debt ceiling. It is politically rational because the House has already given the Senate and the President a choice: Do it like Americans want you to do it, or leave the debt limit where it is. Not only is it politically rational, it is the only choice that obeys the laws of economics: There. Is. No. More. Money. Somebody already spent it.

Drop the act, Boehner. Send the House home."

The House could just vote down EVERYTHING. There's not a damn thing anyone can do if they did.

2012 is irrelavent. If we don't stop it now we are dead!

THERE IS NO MORE MONEY. NONE. NADA. ZIP. ZILCH.

I agree with your sentiments. We cannot afford the spending. We are broke. If the House votes it down and the debt ceiling is not raised, what do you think Obama is preparing to do. Although there is no legal precedent and it of questionable constitutionality, he will cite the 14the amendment and raise it as an executive act.And quite honestly I do not think the public will be outraged by this and he will be able to sell it that he is the only responsible adult in the room. Do you honestly believe that it is politically viable for the Republicans to then bring suit to roll back the executive order while the Dems are spinning that the Republicans are suing to “cause a default”?

Committee assignments given by the Party leadership are usually to those with a history of being good soldiers and with seniority. Antagonize your leadership, and you’re probably not going to be receiving anything, except perhaps, a primary opponent.

The Facebook post includes a copy of that letter with sections in bold that Mr. Palin feels “are especially relevant to the current discussion.”

I love it!! Our Iron Lady has spoken. But stay tuned...the fat speaker has yet to weep.

“Reid does not have to touch CCC. He can pass his own plan in the Senate (the GOP senators will not filibuster), and then dump it back to the House.”

I don’t think the Senate can do this.

Does not the Constitution MANDATE that spending bills must “originate” in the House?

This is why the CCB was passed first in the House and sent to the Senate - that’s how things go as per the Constitution.

Once the bill _gets_ to the Senate, they can accept it, or write their own version, but (unless I’m mistaken) they CANNOT “originate” such a bill on their own.

If their re-written bill is different, then it goes to conference.

But — insofar as appropriations are concerned — the Senate cannot “write” until the hand of the House has already “written”.

I’m sure other Freepers will correct me if I’m wrong.

Just sayin’...

Left unsaid is what the next move is if Boehner’s bill is defeated. How does that strengthen the GOP’s hand in the debt limit fight and how does that get us a more “conservative” bill here? I haven’t heard that explained. At the end of the day, something has to pass the Dem senate and get Obama’s signature. The real key is getting it through the senate. If it makes it through the senate, Obama will likely sign it. The trick is to get the most conservative possible bill through the senate. If Boehner’s bill blows up, how does that advance the conservative cause? And no matter what you think, it matters how Republicans come out of this battle politically. How does defeating Boehner’s bill strenghten them politically?

What do you suggest? Should we let the Senate write it in the first place, and send it over so Boehner can copy it over in his own handwriting?

My preference is to go BACK to CCB, and just keep sending that back to the Senate every single day until they agree to debate it.

That's correct, and it's just killing the Senate that they have to let those riffraff in the House write it. What they really want is to write it themselves and have a page courier it over quietly for the House to pass. Their plan appears to be to just refuse to debate anything the House passes until the House agrees to accept the Senate's constraints on what they're 'allowed' to pass.

Based on the past the Rs will catch hell no matter what so they might as well go big or go home.
