I just wonder what brought on a change in world-view that makes one at one time an Al Gore supporter, who then later claims to be a conservative? Were there no conservatives at the time of Al Gore’s receipt of support from Perry?

At the time, Perry was a conservative southern Democrat. Gore was a conservative southern Democrat (pro-life, etc).

Since then, Perry has changed parties. Gore has changed world-views.

That's the simplified version, anyway.

Gore packaged himself as a "Southern Conservative" (or "Moderate") in 1988, but his voting record betrayed that claim even by then. His votes were above 90% liberal across the board by then (that year he ran for President, he scored a 9% from the ACU). His seatmate, Jim "Daff-uh-Zit" Sasser, similarly hoodwinked Tennesseans into believing he was also a "Southern Conservative" as his voting record was almost identical to Gore's (and he was elected to his third and final term by a massive landslide proportion that same year - 1988). Within 6 years, my fellow Tennesseans finally woke up to what some of us already knew by then.
