A fire truck that rushed to the aid of victims on 9/11 returned to the World Trade Center site Wednesday as it was lowered like a huge flag-draped coffin into exhibition space for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
The truck was from the city fire department's Ladder Company 3, which helped civilians escape from the trade center's north tower on Sept. 11, 2001. The vehicle had sped to the twin towers from its firehouse in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood with 11 firefighters aboard - all of whom died when the towers collapsed and their rig was mangled by debris.
Battalion Chief John Moran (freeper BCM), who was assigned to the company's firehouse, also was killed.
A crane lowered the 60,000-pound battered remains of the truck, shrouded in a white protective covering and decorated with the flags of the Fire Department of New York and the United States, 70 feet into the site as family members of firefighters who died on 9/11 wept, dozens of firefighters saluted and bagpipers played the national anthem.

Michael Moran, a member of Ladder Company 3 who got relieved from duty on Sept. 10, 2001, and whose brother was the battalion chief from the company's firehouse who died on 9/11, said bringing the rig back to the trade center was part of the healing process.
"I think it's a nice tribute to the guys of Ladder 3," he said. He also hoped people would see the rig as a symbol of the firefighters' sacrifices. "They gave up all their tomorrows on Sept. 11."
"They didn't ask any questions. They went to those buildings, not knowing who they were going to rescue," he said. "They knew people were in trouble. Unselfishly they gave their lives."

And a small memorial in the courtyard. Perhaps a sculpture or something.
It’s a shame what we’ve got instead, disgusting really.
Bttt
I was at that game! That was a great night.
It was a little scary at first, but the place was rocking during the game. Even Liza was great. And it was capped off by Mike Piazzas 8th inning 2-run home run.
Yes. Thank you. You understood what I said perfectly. I was expecting a barrage of self righteous indignation for not wallowing in the grief.

We miss you and need you now more that ever.
To speak of the dead is to bring them to life - Egyptian proverb
Yes, that's called trolling. Sorry you've been unsuccessful to this point, but you'll probably get some bites.
They should have rebuilt the towers the next week, but that's not how things are done in NYC. If it's not a mosque or a gay bath house, it's going to run into fierce opposition from every side imaginable.
But, as far as your five minutes of silence per year for the 3,000 victims - I think that would be a bit dismissive and inadequate.
You’re wrong.
We should have re-built them bigger and taller.
Good idea.
...and orient them so that every toilet on every floor faces mecca.
They don’t understand that the greatest memorial would have been to refuse to be defeated.
Both towers had already been hit, yet not collapsed, and they were callingin FDNY companies form all over the city. One company, from Brooklyn, was riding over the Brooklyn Brideg, towards the towers ( burning in the background). All men on the truck were killed.
For me, an incredible image..
No, but some militant atheist group did, in regards to including the steel beams that formed a cross in the memorial.
They object to the religious aspect of a cross at the memorial. But some of the things they put out in their press release were really offensive to me, and I'm not a Christian! I hope that the judge slaps them down HARD, throwing the case out.

No kidding! Isn't there a Church that was damaged that day, and they're still trying to get the permits to do the repairs on the building 10 years later?

Wow..thanks....gonna save that one..
Amen. They should have gone with Trump’s plan. Build them exactly where they were before, only taller, use them as they were before.
I do the same. Anytime they play any of the footage from that day we weep at this house. The closest we were to things that day was Flight 93 since we are on the flight path of the airports here.
LOL! Now you're talking. :)
