They talk a big game, but in private, Republicans attack the one person who stands up for what they claim to believe
If you listen to Eric Cantor or any of the self-styled Tea Party Republicans pushing the country to the brink of default, they claim to be motivated by an unshakeable fealty to the principle that spending must be cut and must be cut right now -- damn the consequences. They appeared serious enough that John Boehner was forced to pull his debt-ceiling bill last night because it cut too little and did not have the votes to pass.
House Republicans on Wednesday morning were calling for the firing of the Republican Study Committee top staffer after he was caught sending e-mails to conservative groups urging them to pressure GOP lawmakers to vote against a debt proposal from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Infuriated by the e-mails from Paul Teller, the executive director of the RSC, members started chanting "Fire him, fire him!" while Teller stood silently at a closed-door meetings of House Republicans.
"It was an unbelievable moment," said one GOP insider. "I've never seen anything like it."

The Atlantic has been a purveyor of fiction for decades now. I remember the days of James Fallows telling us that the Abrams, the Apache and any number of weapons systems employed during Desert Storm were unnecessary, expensive and ineffective. Not that he ever retracted his criticisms after Schwarzkopf steamrolled the “battle-hardened” Iraqi armies in Kuwait and southern Iraq.
Because it probably didn't happen. When are one of these sources going to give the names in these things. Is there any evidence this happened? I would love to know who was there in the rage so I know who to see lose in a primary. I hate this chicken sh!# stuff.
Until the (very left-wing) Atlantic names the sources, I'm gonna consider this Soviet-style disinformation, of a piece with the Soviet lie that the CIA invented AIDS to kill off black Africans. Ultimately, this magazine is the Nation minus the snarl.

I don’t know what state this staffer is from, but if he is from a swing district that has a RINO or Blue-Dog RAT, I’d support him in a run.

It is very sad really. I don’t see how anyone could see what is going on and not call it a failure. There has never been a solution to anything that I can recall in the last 40 years save for a short time of Regan. The rest of the time has been wandering, waffling and waste.

I'm afraid you might be right. Our Founders did not have a lot of confidence our Democratic Republic would be long lasting because of the vagaries of human nature. Our electorate has shown that they are not responsible enough to wisely choose representatives. They, more often than not, ignorantly choose those who promise them the most.
