Yes, the House Republicans may raise the debt ceiling for a mix of spending cuts and revenue raisers. Yes, Barack Obama may win the 2012 presidential contest. Yes, bureaucrats and judges will continue to impose new and costly regulations on the economy.

But it doesn’t matter. The long-term trends are almost all bad news for the left wing of the party.

This is about the dumbest statement I've read in a long time. It doesn't matter if Obama wins again? It doesn't matter if the debt ceiling is raised with no real, defined, major cuts in spending? And it doesn't matter if bureaucrats and judges impose further laws without congressional action? That's all OK because long term trends for the democrats are 'almost all' bad news? What an idjit.

It is dumb because it is incomplete. If Obama wins a second term the statement should read;

"But it doesn’t matter. The long-term trends are almost all bad news for the left wing of the party and the rest of the country.
