This might be worthy of your Dinosaur pinglist, at least related.

It is clear that this story would have gone nowhere relying on the MSM.

So our old “argument” takes another turn.

I have been concerned that the consolidation in the MSM is dangerous, as they will just provide a conduit for pre-packaged Reuters/AP propaganda.

At the same time I have also been concerned that consolidation means a reduction in beat reporters in the smaller papers, reducing the number of people paid to ferret this stuff out.

OTOH, here we have David Codrea on the potemkin ePaper “Examiner.com”, otherwise freelancer and/or of Guns Magazine.

This story/scandal would never have seen the light of day without him.

Citizen journalism success story? Or exception that proves the rule that the 4th estate has been broken by consolidation and think about all the other horrific things going on unreported because “citizen journalism” is only picking up a tiny fraction of the heavy lifting.

What do you think?

Both. The MSM has been “consolidated” for a long time and has been spitting out Marxist talking points for fifty years and more.

We just didn’t know any better, because that’s all there was.

The alternative media will eventually get all the news out, but not without a fight. We’ll be called names and be threatened with jail, etc - as it has been throughout history. See Martin Luther.

Now excuse me. I have to get back to a story I broke with my newsblog Monday about a local library board that voted to give all the staff a 50% raise.
