It would be nice if the Creator stepped in to do something about it.

The Creator gave us dominion over the earth.
He gave us His Son Who won the victory through His death and resurrection.
He told us to be salt and light to the world.
He's waiting for us to do something about it.
God does not intervene because He gave us the gift of "free will". It's just that simple. Were He to intervene each time an evil act is committed, then there would be no need for paradise. It would be here.
Depends on the sin. Child sacrifice is an abomination.
