This is actually one I favor. The coal-fired plants in the Four Corners area have significantly increased air pollution there. It might be cheaper for geographic & transmission expense reasons to operate coal-fired plants there but, given the dearth of rain, the crap those things put in air tends to hang there a long time.

This makes it appropriate for government regulation to make the operators expense the true cost of their operation rather than dumping some of it onto local residents and tourists in America's most scenic area.

Smoky air in the Grand Canyon is quite noticeable on windless days. Welcome to the wonderful world of No Nukes.

***The coal-fired plants in the Four Corners area have significantly increased air pollution there.****

When I lived there, the APS plant on the south side of the road on Navajo rez land was belching lots of smoke and ash. The San Juan Power plant on the north side of the road was as clean as a whistle.

I read that they finally put precipitators or scrubbers on the APS plant to clean it up several years ago.

Coal fired plants have upgraded and put in a large amount of money to reduce ash, toxins, etc. So if we shut down this power plant who suffers? Everyone. Less power for the grid to meet growing power needs, out of work Navajo and other workers of the area, coal miners, and transportation workers who move the coal on truck and rail.

Coal fired plants are cleaning up the best they can and I have yet to hear of anyone dying from coal fired electricity air pollution. Please correct me if I am wrong.
