Drudge is reporting that Boehner wants $1 trillion in cuts. Is that $1 trillion in cuts for the current fiscal year?
No. Absolutely NO plan put forward, by anybody, including the avid Tea Party representatives, have included a trillion in cuts for the first year.
It makes no sense to be upset about not getting cuts that nobody has proposed or thinks would be a good thing.
The economy is still too shaky to cut one forth of next year's budget, without cutting defense.
There better be real cuts, but nobody is asking for it all to happen next year.
Of course, if you just leave the debt limit in place, we'll end up with more cuts quicker, but again only a few tea party folks are advocating leaving the debt limit in place, and none of them have provided their vision for government expenses under a no-new-borrowing proposal.
In fact, of the tea party folks who oppose raising the debt limit, they seem to do so for political reasons -- Bachmann for example will vote to raise the limit in exchange for repeal of Obamacare, not because she wants to cut spending by 40% this year.
