I actually like the Krauthammer plan, and wish the house republicans would play that card.
If the democrats won’t solve the whole problem, then let’s feed them small doses, so it keeps coming back.
Instead of raising the ceiling 2.5 trillion, raise it .5 trillion. And enact the 500 billion in immediate spending cuts called for by the “gang of 6”.
We still will have leverage in 5 months, and maybe we can send the message that the debt “ceiling” only has meaning if you can’t just raise it whenever you hit it.
We should force the democrats to vote on raising the debt ceiling it least 3 times before the 2012 election, and each time the fight should be over why we aren’t cutting spending so we stop hitting the debt ceiling.
Before it was the Krauthammer Plan it was the Pat Buchanan Plan. Credit should go where credit is due.
If Buchanan knows anything he knows how to stick it to the dems.
Instead we should do the Krauthammer plan and extend the deadline to next summer. That will make the budget the number one issue during the presidential election, weakening Obama's bargaining position, as it is a lot harder to argue for tax increases right in the middle of a presidential campaign.
