Roemer was a congressman from Louisiana, 1981-’88. He was a governor, 1988-’92. He’s pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, pro-life, and anti-illegal alien.
Wow, howdy old timer! :’)
It sez Buddy Roemer served four terms in Congress as a Democrat who switched to the GOP late in his gubenatorial term. Gary Johnson supports legalization of marijuana, gay marriage, and abortion. Thad McCotter is the only one of these three who’s conservative. The other two are Democrats in All But Name — DIABuN — who like fiscally responsible big government. Thanks greeneyes.
Buddy’s on his third marriage, is nominally and self-described a Methodist.

Then I discover a few year later he was a motivational speaker dude. One of the Denver locals introduced me to him as such when was virtually homeless.

He was a prof at Michigan State when I was there, ran for governor, some of the most transparently faux-patriotic TV ads I’ve ever seen. Among his proposals was making Michigan’s legislature unicameral. :’) Joltin’ Zolton was a mild bit of mockery he used to get from the hard lefties up there in E Lansing.
I think that he’s the best candidate, in that race, since he’s a conservative, who has a variety of political experience. He wants to cut the federal income tax rate, on incomes of $250,000, per year, or less, to 6%, and he wants to eliminate the majority of deductions and exemptions. He wants to eliminate the Departments of Education and Energy. He’s pro-life and anti-illegal alien. He’s the only candidate, in the race, who has been a congressman and a governor.
Buddy Roemer was just on C-Span radio (a replay of his press conference today, Aug 15). He’s a good speaker...making some compelling points about energy, taxes, how special interest money controls policy, health care reform, banking, fair trade, etc.
“America is dying, bleeding to death and they bring a band-aid to the table” (the currently announced candidates).

Folks, there are already first-tier candidates that make me go “are you kidding me?”
Thanks for the link. I recorded about half of the speech. I didn’t record the first part because I forgot about the speech. Do you know of any other Roemer supporters, who live in Illinois, other than me? I’m trying to find others, so that we can run for delegate to the Republican National Convention, for him. To run, we need to get petition signatures, starting on Sept. 6.
The first time I heard about him was the Aug. 15 press conference, so I came to FR to see if there was anything about him here. Good luck with your campaigning.
