Karl Rove says he and consultant David Weeks persuaded Rick Perry to switch parties and run for state agriculture commissioner
Texas Gov. Rick Perry draws mention in GOP consultant Karl Roves autobiography with attention
focused on Perrys win for lieutenant governor in 1998 and Rove’s role in his pivotal earlier
switch from the Democratic to Republican party while he was a third-term member of the Texas House.
Rove writes: Rick Perry had planned to retire from the legislature until his best friend,
David Weeks, and I talked him into switching parties and running for the GOP nomination for
agriculture commissioner. His book, “Courage and Consequence, My Life as a Conservative
in the Fight,” was published March 9.

He sure did. But it took Rick Perry to move Texas to the Right. Look around those %100 Republican office holders in state government and many districts.
You’ve been told a hundred times of Texas democratic past of the ‘80’s, and how Rick navigated up through Ag. Commissioner. All Texas farmers were democrats as they were in Oklahoma. Heck, Gore was pro-life in the 80’s. You might want to get with the present facts as they are, because Rick will take off at some point when the money is where it needs to be to crush the rest, and Obama too. The goal is to actually win the general election and not peruse the scrap books of the ‘80’s. At least I’m looking at a winner in ‘12.
