There are other types of bacterial meningitis. They have vaccines for two of the other most common forms of it. The one he is most likely referring to is caused by
Neisseria meningitidis. If it gets in a person's circulation, i.e. bacteremia, septicemia, it can also frequently cause amputations.

My nephew was vaccinated for this, as well as for hepatitus, I believe.
We believe in vaccinations/innoculations, and are willing to pay for them ourselves.
