Perry, along with many in the Texas legislature at that time received a Merck campaign donation of $6,000.

I doubt it was the $6,000 for Perry. Perry's good friend and former Chief of Staff was one of the main Merck Lobbyists, and Merck was pushing money through a lobbying group, Women in Government, that was run in part by the mother of his current Chief of Staff. I think it was more of a favor to a good friend, which is typical Perry.
