The 234-190 vote sends the "cut, cap and balance" plan to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it has virtually no chance of passing.

The presumption is that, with a Republican Congress, the budget would be balanced by spending cuts.
However, as you are observing, we should also presume that a Democrat Congress would balance the budget with tax increases.
To that end, I believe the Balanced Budget Amendment has a provision that tax increases require a 2/3 majority.
Many states with Constitutionally-mandated balanced budgets also require super-majorities to raise taxes.
The AP sucks. Notice how they refuse to provide DETAILS because they KNOW Americans SUPPORT this plan!
Too bad the party-controlled media refuses to provide details of the Republican plan.
Same to you, NYCraincoat! :-)
The one store I knew would carry it and send it to you, sadly went out of business about a decade ago, after having been in business for well over 100 years. So that's a no go. Perhaps there's some other mail order place on line? Have you looked on line for it?
Still and all, "NERO FIDDLED WHILE ROME BURNED" is the accepted form. LOL
It *IS* inconsistent.
The whole *POINT* of cut, cap and balance is to say “here is what we demand in order to raise the debt ceiling.”
The folks who sign the pledge and vote “no” when the pledge is put on the floor are really not getting the point.
Unless Bachmann and the no voters have an alternative plan to raise the debt ceiling and/or end the deficit tomorrow, they are all hat and no cattle.
The Senate plan has no real cuts, but ‘cuts’ will be determined later by committees.
So even if it passes it only has “symbolic” cuts.
“One problem with the Balanced Budget amendment: could make it constitutional for Congress to raise tax rates to World War II levels (94% in some cases).”
That is NOT a problem with a BBA. Not at all.
Even without the BBA, if you had a Pelosi/Obama/Durbin Congress and they felt they could get away with it politically, they’d pass that bill tomorrow and it would be Constitutional.
So the problem is marxists in the Congress not the BBA.
The idea of Nero fiddling is an insult to fiddlers and violinists. The fiddle has a sound post, finger board and is play mainly with a bow. A lyre has none of these features. It must have sounded like a beginning guitar student, not knowing any chords just plucking away on open strings.
However, the lyre was thee predecessor to the violin, and probable why we have our present 13 note scale.
I know, so far it's been a dull day. Too much repetition.
Good point. I fear whom they will put on the committee to resolve the differences between the bills.

This is all correct. This is not your Daddy’s BBA, this is a strong amendment to CAP SPENDING and limit Government.
RuPaul and his son in the Senate have been very quiet lately, not a word out of them. When it gets down to business and accomplishing something, their ilk disappear and cut and run on every issue.
You’re right, Rand has been strikingly quiet!
I guess he at least hasn’t been Gang of Sixing us...
thanks for the link
Why is it a stunt to defund & repeal 0dumboCare? That was the rallying cry for House repubs in the 2010 election. And why shouldn’t there be a massive push to actually cut spending in 2012? The gubmint can’t project 10 days into the future, let alone 10 years. A 10 year deficit reduction plan actually means nothing will be cut.... only the cost curve will be “bent down”. The federal gubmint spending should be cut from $3.8 trillion to $2.8 trillion in 2012 alone. Now that would be actual cuts plus deficit reduction in 2012. This whole debate should be on the next 12-18 months, not 10 years of meaningless garbage.
I was heartbroken when Paprika Weiss shut its doors ( my family had bought paprika, etc. from him/the store, from my great great grandmother on down, as did most of the Hungarian community in NYC, as well as the subsequent generations ) and it was the only place I could think of, though it's long gone now, when you asked me about where to buy lekvar.
The Vermont Country Store sells some foreiign products, and they used to sell lekvar, but I looked at the site and didn't see it. Perhaps they'll carry it again, come the fall.
Smucker's doesn't make nor sell lekvar, that I know of.
The ancient lyre was sort of a cross between a harp and an unfretted guitar. The ancient Hebrew "harp" was a form of a lyre, which was played all over the ancient world.
Lots and lots of repetion, yes, with the same arguments and nothing "new". OTOH, the moronic "GANG OF SIX" POS, has been called DEAD, anyway.
repitition
The tea Party needs to back off the House Majority Leader. They have to realize that something will pass in the House, but it still has to pass Harry Reid and the Senate and past Obama and his potential veto. Give the Republicans majority in the Senate, keep the House and also the President. Then things will be different.
