Unless they amend the Constitution.
Personally, I would support an amendment that replaced the natural-born citizen requirement with a requirement that the president have been a U.S. citizen for at least 35 years; since the minimum age for presidents is 35, no natural-born citizen would be ineligible after the amendment that wasn’t ineligible prior to it, and it would allow voters to elect as president persons who became U.S. citizens as children or young adults. I mean, how old was Hoekstra when his parents moved to Michigan from the Netherlands, 3 years old or so? He’s been a Michigander practically his entire life.
I assume that the open Dem seat is the MI-05 long held by Kildee (which I hope that conservative Dem Jim Barcia seeks and wins, since God knows no Republican can win there). What’s the open GOP seat, McCotter’s MI-09? It’s pretty marginal right now, and probably won’t be 100% safe even after redistricting.
Hoekstra’s MI-02 is the most heavily GOP seat in the state and was won by (surprise) an Ottawa County conservative in 2010 (but not by the ex-NFL player who appeared to be the frontrunner).
Dr. Robert Steele the real tea party candidate!
All of a sudden Pete Hoekstra is running I wonder why is it to keep Steele from growing?
Steele got little traction in 2010
I think this is a great development because Hoekstra can win while it’s unlikely the other Republicans can.
(Now to wait for some Michigander who thinks Hoekstra is a contemptible RINO to tell me to shut up because I’m from Illinois. That would be some irony.)
The Senate majority is everybody’s buissness.
Every Senator has power over every American. (And sbMKE would have every right to his opinion even if that wasn’t the case. This is America.)
“Oh you aren’t from (state) so shut up” is a tremendously lame argument. So is “oh your state has (ahole democrat senator) so shut up and clean your own mess”. I didn’t vote for any of the asshats in my state and I take serious umbrage when someone tries to imply that it’s somehow my fault they were elected. I guessing sbMKE didn’t vote for Kohl.
I don’t know you but I want to think you are better than this.
I think Hoekstra has a RINO streak but he’s well to the right of McCain and not even on the same planet as Stabenow.
He’s well known and can win. Its an OK tradeoff.
I’ve always like Hoekstra, and have never noticed a liberal streak in him. He’s a first-tier opponent to Stabenow, maybe not quite as strong a statewide candidate as Mike Rogers or Candace Miller, but excellent nonetheless.
