I believe India is using thorium the more conventional way currently. If they switch to the newer LFTR designs they will be sitting pretty. They could use the energy (we all could).
It would be astounding IF we would take just part of what we were spending at NASA and put it into LFTR. That is one gubment program I might be able to support.
Of course now with the Fukushima mess ALL nuclear is BAD and so here we go again starting all over from TMI times.
