Actually they went the other way. There was talk of allowing CHL holders to have their weapons in their vehicles. That got squashed after Hassan's murderous rampage.
Of course in Texas, anyone can have a concealed handgun in their vehicle, provided they are traveling, and that means that the vehicle is going somewhere, even just down to the mail box. That's been in effect for some time now, with no increase in road rage shooting or any of the other predicted calamities. The Army could and should learn from that.
What you are describing, of course, is Castle Doctrine, and I think it’s one of the best laws we have. With the passage of Castle Doctrine, you no longer need a CHL to be carrying in your car when you are traveling...(if I’m in my car, I’m traveling—LOL)—or in your home.
I know quite a few people who now own guns that ordinarily wouldn’t have, because they didn’t want to be in another gummit data base.
