Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border.
Perry, who told the Des Moines Register in recent days that God may be calling him to run for president, has long said Washington has not deployed enough manpower to the Texas-Mexico border. He repeated that criticism this morning, saying he wants 3,000 Border Patrol agents along the border in Texas and 1,000 troops from the National Guard. He said the administrations decision to send 286 troops last year was grossly inadequate.
The federal government continues to turn a blind eye to this problem, Perry said.
Last August, when President Barack Obama came to Austin for a fundraiser, Perry met him at the airport and tried to hand him a letter asking for National Guard troops. (He gave the letter to an Obama aide.) Perry later bragged in a re-election commercial that he had confronted Obama, showing footage of their brief encounter.
Last year, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sent Perry a letter saying the Border Patrol was better staffed than at any time in its history, having increased from about 10,000 agents in 2004 to more than 20,000 in 2010.

Do you live in a border state?
Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument
Under the “leadership” of the wing of the GOP that Rick Perry is part of, we’ve all become “border states.” Other than a few isolated pockets, the whole nation has been overrun. You do realize this, right?
One more time:
****************
I'm not a mind reader but it strikes me that Gov. Rick Perry truly believed the HPV vaccine would have helped a lot of Texans who otherwise would not have gotten this protection against cervical cancer (it was to help with 3 strains of the human papilloma virus HPV).
Rick Perry's wife Anita Perry was a nurse for many years and still is involved in health care as First Lady of Texas, so I imagine health care is something this governor is more aware of than maybe your "average" governor and understood this to be a vaccine that would combat cervical cancer and cut heath care costs.
Then too Rick Perry grew up hard scrabble with little luxury as many have, yet vaccines traditionally have been made available to all.
Instead of applying the worst motives to Rick Perry, perhaps his critics could consider that his motives were good ones.
Another FReeper had some thoughts on this issue.
However, there are some here on FR who prefer to apply the worst motives to Rick Perry.
The most "vocal" either won't name a candidate they would support; say they would vote for Huntsman or Romney over Perry; say they would rather Obama stay in the White House than vote for Rick Perry.
The HPV vaccine was always Opt-Out. And according to this report had been changed to Opt-In, before being dropped entirely.
90 days after his EO, Gov. Rick Perry let stand legislation undoing the EO.
..Ann Hettinger, Concerned Women for America's state director of Texas, was instrumental in convincing Perry to change his proposal to an opt-in provision. When asked if Perry's original plans for the HPV vaccine would be an issue if he were to run for president, [CEO of Concerned Women for America, Penny] Nance replied, It would've been an issue IF HE HAD NOT FIXED IT.
However, under the law, students only have to promise that they will apply for citizenship.
And why exactly would El Presidente Vincente Fox be thanking Perry if the governor did not do something that El Presidente approved of on the illegal alien front? Perry can't run away from that video.
What was provocative?
More provocative than mandating GARDASIL for one’s
Chief of Staff’s company by Executive Order?
More provocative than RINO Perry being the puppet of Rove
and Al Gore?
So you don't live on the border.
Still beating that drum? Prove it. Do some work and then I'll post all the links I have that totally destroy your smears.
You little disingenuous PerryBOT.
THE VACCINE WAS MANDATED.
PEOPLE WERE HORRIFIED.
THE RINO PERRY and his WIFE DID NOT CARE.
The benefits of this bill will last only as long as the cartels can master new forgeries. I applaud this nonetheless.
BOTTOM LINE: PERRY HAS NO HEART FOR INTERNAL ENFORCEMENT. THAT MEANS THE LOSS OF THE “POLITICAL NATION”....PLEASE LET THIS SINK IN.
I know the situation on the southern border quite well, having spent quite a lot of time there.
He makes exceptions on abortion.
How about NOT supporting a Texas DREAM Act?
How about NOT publicly railing against AZ 1070?
LEFTY MSM lie. Perry said it wasn't a fit for Texas. BTW, how is that law working for AZ?
RINO Ricky has ties to some certifiable religious wack-jobs in Texas, so he may be doing more than just election-year pandering on abortion. Then again, he endorsed Giuliani last time around so he might be full of it on RTL, too.
July 18, 2011: Andrea Tantaros & Bob Beckel discuss Rick Perry & Rudy Giuliani Giuliani: Says, the Republican Party will be much more successful if we get the heck out of peoples bedrooms let these things get decided by states and stick to our economic conservative roots."
June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Womens Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."
That's nice but you don't live here.
You are correct when you agree with Texas conservatives
who suggest that Gov. Perry
stop sorta running for the top job
as Rove’s puppet and Romney’s chess piece
and instead finally face
and address the issues facing the Texan people.
I’m beginning to believe they’re the “third party” reelect Obama troops.
Way to go!
I knew you had that guardisil thingy somewhere in that pointy little paul-head.
