WASHINGTON The next step in the weeks-long saga over how to increase the government's borrowing cap is to let House tea party forces try it their way.
A Republican "cut, cap and balance" plan set for a House vote Tuesday would condition a $2.4 trillion increase in the so-called debt limit on an immediate $100 billion-plus cut from next year's budget and adoption by Congress of a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget.
"Let's let the American people decide," said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on "Fox News Sunday." "Do they want something common sense as cutting spending, capping the growth in government and requiring a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution?"
The idea appears to be to allow tea party-backed GOP lawmakers to have the run of Congress this week in hopes that they'll ultimately be able to stomach a plan emerging in the Senate to give President Barack Obama sweeping power to order a $2.5 trillion increase in the debt limit without approval by Congress.

LOL. I guess the MSM has to demonize the Rep proposal by calling it the Tea Party proposal. They think that will hurt the GOP. It actually helps them.
“$100 billion-plus cut”
So that’s $0.38B in real money, right?
Hey CBSh**, Let’s let the American people decide...
You mention the tea party those are the American people WHO PAY TAXES.
Independents and democrats included the ones who PAY TAXES.
WORK HARDER--millions of people on welfare are depending on you!
Haha you called it. That’s exactly what they were trying to do.
Is this really what passes for a Tea Party budget plan? Seriously?
Surely Democrats won’t object to a “Balanced Budget Amendment”...
Why should they?
RAISING TAXES is one way to achieve a “Balanced” Budget.
Poor GOP — outsmarted again!
Let’s see now...
Obama gets the $2.4 BILLION debt ceiling increase HE needs to make his big-spending ways a non-issue for the next election.
The GOP gets $0.2 BILLION in spending cuts. Some of those “cuts” may even be “real”
Hmmm...
Could the GOP have been outsmarted once again?
Yeah, that’s a good one.... and it’s true.
You would think that by letting the rich get richer, it would be helping the poor
on welfare but 0bamie wants ‘HIS RICH DONORS to be the only rich. Hmmm
I know lots of Tea Partiers, all across the country.
And I don't know a single one that wants to raise the debt ceiling.
Which this phony, mislabeled Republican bill does.
If they were really "cutting and capping" there would be no need to raise the debt limit.
Any person who understands even the most basic math can figure this out.
Now I hear that Republicans on the House Banking Committe are blaming bank examiners for the slowdown in hiring. They opine that banks aren't lending money because of their fear of bad reports from examiners.
These guys give me a reason to shake my head in disgust every day of the week.
If there were truth in legislative labeling, it would be called "tinker, obfuscate and borrow."
New tagline ...
Look at it this way, at least they have the balls to propose one! The democrats didn’t do it for TWO YEARS!!!! They just kept spending as fast as the Fed could print it, eff the consequences.
This is a BIG improvment over the dims lack of ability to get a budget together.
"You've reached the voice mailbox for NHN. If you agree with me that true conservatism is the last best hope for this country, leave your name & number and I'll call you back. If not, then GOOD DAY & GOOD LUCK!!!"
“LOL. I guess the MSM has to demonize the Rep proposal by calling it the Tea Party proposal. They think that will hurt the GOP. It actually helps them.”
Just like when they say that not raising the debt ceiling will mean a 45% cut in Government spending... as if that’s a bad thing.
