Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says a balanced budget is the only way to deal with the countrys long term fiscal situation, even as the White House continues to reject the proposal as draconian.
Appearing on CNNs State of the Union" Sunday, Graham said that Republicans would raise the debt ceiling only in exchange for the requirements in the Cut, Cap and Balance legislation the House is expected to vote this week. That bill would cut government spending to 2008 levels, cap spending for the next decade, and require the passage of a balanced budget constitutional amendment.
For those three things, well raise the debt limit, Graham said. That will be the Republican position in the House almost unanimously; I think it will be the Republican position in the Senate.
Earlier on the program, White House budget director Jack Lew rejected the proposal.
What these ideas do is say, 'Lets kick the can down the road so that others can deal with it,' Lew said. The form that the constitutional amendment takes is actually quite draconian.
He said that it would mandate cuts to Social Security and Medicare that are more deep than did the controversial House budget proposed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.)
Graham, in turn, said that the real threat to the nation is the burden of unsustainable debt.
What is calamitous is the path were on as a nation, he said. Were becoming Greece.
Uber RINO Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Want on or off this ping list?
Just FReepmail me.
h/t to martin_fierro for the graphic
Why on Earth, would they need to raise the debt limit, if they are cutting spending, creating a balanced budget amendment, and capping spending then?
Why do all of those other things when they have already bankrupted us?
The Barn is burning, the horse is gone, the cattle are in the corn.........
We’re in the Weimar Republic phase.
because the cuts will never come.
“I’m becoming an alcoholic and I need to do something about it. Meanwhile, can I have another beer?”
The Barn is burning, the horse is gone, the cattle are in the corn and nobama wants to know who made the barn door lock.
BTY, IMHO it is telling that this thread has been up for an hour and there have been only seven responses including this one.
We don't promote such weak beverages, we will however offer 2 double martini's in one glass instead.
I think a lot of folks are probably settling into a semi shock state ...I know I am.
But I’ll add one ...so, Senator Graham ..you’re just now noticing this? And you’ve been in the Senate how many terms?
We’re becoming Greece.
Sucks to be you little people. :P
Now pay your taxes, we need raises. :)
/sarc(?)
Well, bump the thread instead of passively whining.
I’ve been on FR for two hours, viewing via the comments tab, and your reply was the first I’ve seen of this thread.
Lindsey Graham is the worst of the Congressional RINO contingent. I don’t believe a word he says, unless it’s finding truth in the opening he left for Republicans not to vote for this. He’s compromised and has been since the Clinton impeachment hearings. Those pictures must be something else, imho.
Were becoming Greece.
Yes , for Graham , “ Greece is the word “ .
Graham: “Look at me ...I’m still a Republican....well, kind of....no REALLY I am!
It is like waves lapping at the shore. Every day (sometimes...every hour) these RINO morons and LIB/Asshats come up with further proof that they are anti-Free-America. Vote them out. Stop supporting them with money and votes. Flood their offices with truth. Don’t laugh at their jokes.
Fairy Boy go sash shay away!! Can you SC Guys dump this POS???
Maybe the Weiner Republic?
I cannot stand to listen to Obama from the first time I saw him on TV. However, I’d gladly spend an evening of listening to his speeches on an IPOD than listening to 10 minutes of Graham.
Isn’t there someone who would please post those pictures the dems have in their vault and just get this nightmare over with.
