I repeat - this is not a political left / right point. This is a moral right / wrong point.
The BBC is not on trial here. No one has accused them of wrongdoing in this affair (thus far). If you have evidence to the contrary, then you need to contact the relevent authorities and have them bring charges. Even if that did happen, the (alleged) iniquities of the BBC are immaterial as to whether or not NewsCorp is guilty. You cannot defend Murdoch's news outlets from charges by saying "other people have done even worse". That just means they should ALL be in the dock.
Far too many Americans on these boards seem to think this is some kind of conspiracy against righteous Murdoch by the evil left wing media. To be sure, I suspect most of them are rubbing their hands with glee at his discomfiture, but at the same time I can assure you all that if you were unfortunate enough to be exposed to Murdoch's UK based so-called "newspapers" most of you would PUKE. Newscorps operations in the UK are in no way on a par with Fox news. The News of the World and the Sun are like cut price versions of the "National Enquirer" without the journalistic scruples.
